1.) Picking Your Niche Topic
It is advice that to build your own first website or blog, you should go for a niche that you are familiar with and have some amount of interest and/or knowledge about it. So before anything else you should pick the topic you love. When you are new to blogging and wanted to create a self-hosted blog, you need to properly choose the topic you love to write about.

2.) Registering a Domain Name
The second thing you need to do next is to get yourself a domain name. This is the name you want to give to your website. For example, the domain name www.end-anxiety-panic-attacks.com. End-Anxiety-Panic-Attacks is the name of the site having a .com extension. Remember you can also choose other extensions to your site like .net, .org, and etc. but it is recommended to use a known and popular extension which .com.
To get your domain name, you will have to pay an annual fee of an average cost of $10 to a domain registrar. This does not get you a website yet, you are only purchasing the name of your website.
I recommend using GODADDY for buying your domain, they regularly offer coupons and amazing deals on domain registrations and transfers which is great to save some money; you can search online for some Godaddy coupons available.
I purchase my domain for only $1 for its 1st year at Godaddy using their promo coupons and in my own experience I don’t have any problem with my domain name in Godaddy. You can also purchase your domain at NAMECHEAP, another great domain registrar which also has a good feedback from customers.
* Tip- A faster way to check for domain name availability is using AJAXWHOIS.ORG, it shows you if any .COM, .NET or .ORG are available.
3.) Getting a Web Hosting Account
Once you already have your own domain name, you will need to get a hosting company (also called a web host). And every self-hosted blog or website has a hosting company. It is the one that connects your website to the World Wide Web.
Well, you can also purchase a hosting account from the company you bought your domain, but this is an option, you may or may NOT buy hosting from same company you bought your domain. And the average annual payment for a hosting account is more or less $60, but you can find some coupons online that you can use to lessen the amount you can pay for the first year of your hosting account.
In my case, I have a different company that hosts my website. I choose IPAGE to host my website, and this hosting company also offers promo coupons which you can purchase your hosting account for only $1-$3 for your first year. I also do love their 24/7 online chat customer service for any problems or concerns you have regarding your account. You can check the website to know the features of their hosting account.
You can also check out HOSTGATOR, one of the popular hosting companies recommended by many. But the decision are still yours, this two hosting company were great and offer good services for your website. For my case, I don’t have any problems with IPAGE and I do love to recommend it because their customer service and CPanel is great.
After you choose your hosting company, creating an account is only very easy, you only need to provide the details and you have your package within minutes. But be very careful with the email you use with your account, do not lose this email, for it contains the important information you will need later to complete and set up your website.
